Getting a “yes” is easier with the right words

If you lead a P2P fundraising team, your people are out there—but most won’t raise their hand without a nudge. A clear, brief, personal invite makes all the difference.

These 7 scripts are field-tested to help you recruit captains and fundraisers through text, DM, email, or even face-to-face prompts.

1. Quick DM to a close friend

"Hey {Name}, I’m leading a small team for {Event}. Would you join me? I’ll send 3 ready-to-post messages this week so it’s easy. Up for it?"

2. Post-event follow-up

"You were amazing last time. Want to try captaining this year? I’ve got templates and tips ready—super doable."

3. Light-touch ask at a group meeting

"We’re forming teams for {Event}. You don’t need a fundraising background—you’ll get scripts and support. Want in?"

4. Family-oriented event script

"{Event} helps kids like {Name/Beneficiary}. I’m building a team. Want to join and share one story post this week?"

5. High-capacity supporter

"You made a big impact last year. Interested in leading a small team this time? Takes ~20 mins a week, and I’ll set you up."

6. Group email invite

"Hi all—We’re launching a fundraiser for {Event}. I’d love to have 3–5 captains to each invite a few friends. Scripts and image posts provided. Can I count you in?"

7. Story-first public post

"Why I’m in: {short personal reason}. I’m recruiting for a fundraiser team. You’ll get posts to copy. DM me if curious."
